Red Dead Redemption guide to become a legendary outlaw

Open World

Since its release in 2010, Red Dead Redemption has established itself as a classic title and a firm favourite among gamers. With the announcement that it’s now playable on Xbox One via backwards compatibility, its popularity has soared once again as players rejoin John Marston and flock back to the Old West.

Red Dead’s world is huge, and full of all sorts of challenges and side missions to keep you busy for many hours to come. We’ve compiled a suite of guides to help you reach that elusive 100% completion stat, so if you’re looking for help then pick from the list below and saddle up!

In the GamesRadar+ Red Dead Redemption review from back when it originally launched in 2010, we gave it 4.5/5 stars, and it still holds up well over a decade later. With the game now available on many different types of consoles, it’s even easier check out.

If you’re wondering “how long is Red Dead Redemption?”, we’ve broken down the possible number of hours you’ll be spending in the American plains based on your playstyle.

Red Dead Redemption isn’t an especially short game and its 57 missions take John Marston on all sorts of twists and turns through America - and even a detour into Mexico for a bit. It’s opening chapter set in New Austin is quite lengthy in itself, so we’ve laid out a Red Dead Redemption walkthrough for it.

As you explore the open world, you’ll also come across weird and wonderful citizens in need - these are Red Dead Redemption Stranger missions, and they’re well worth completing to see some interesting stories unfold and get John into some strange antics.

While you’re out exploring the land, there are a few ambient challenges you can complete to improve your skills, get loot, and more - all of which help you on your way to 100% completion. If you’re looking to explore and make some cash, taking the time to do some Red Dead Redemption treasure hunting with maps is a great idea. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption hunting challenges will get you plenty of valuable pelts and parts to sell, but angry animals mean this can be a bit more danagerous.

If you want to liven up your game with infinite ammo, invincible John, a donkey, and no wanted levels, then make sure you know about all of these Red Dead Redemption cheats. There are almost 40 to mess around with, some of which you’ll need to enter manually using a phrase, but there are plenty that are unlocked by default.

The spooky DLC for Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare - pits John in a supernatural version of the world, where zombies and other horrible monsters roam the land. There’s no rest for the wicked though, so John still has plenty of Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare challenges to tick off as you play.

One of the most time-consuming of these is the Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare treasure challenge. As in the main game, there are maps leading the way to useful treasures, providing supplies that’ll help you in the zombie battles ahead.

As mentioned, there’s more than just zombies out in the plains too. From Chupacabra to a horse called called Death, there are all sorts of Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare mythical creatures to discover.
