Red Dead Redemption cheat codes are a great way to give yourself a boost in the original outlaw adventure, or to just make the West truly Wild by sowing the seeds of chaos! There are a total of 39 cheats available to deploy in the first Red Dead Redemption game, ranging from infinite ammunition to giving everyone else a gun, or simply spawning a donkey to ride around on. However, only around half of those are available to begin with, and to unlock the rest of the cheats you have to type out unusual phrases through the in-game cheats menu. This isn’t a process you can complete through trial and error, but helpfully we have a list below covering every phrase you need to enter to complete the set. Read on for all of the cheat codes you can unlock in Red Dead Redemption.
If you’re more interested in the sequel than the original, you can also check out all of the Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats here!
Before getting to the full list of Red Dead Redemption cheat codes, you need to know how you activate them. Pause the game, select the ‘Options’ menu, then select the ‘Cheats’ menu. This will bring up a list of all the cheats you have unlocked – you should have some cheats on the list already, but there are plenty more to add to them!
To get more cheats, press Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation, or X on Nintendo Switch to bring up your console’s keyboard, or follow the appropriate prompt on PC. Now you can type in the relevant phrases, one at a time, from the list below.
Be warned: activating a cheat code while playing Red Dead Redemption single-player will disable autosaves and Achievements or Trophies. Turning off any cheats won’t suddenly fix this, so to get back to normal you need to reload a previous save to reach a point before you activated any cheats. If you plan on using any cheats, it’s always good to save at a campfire or settlement just before you activate them to ensure you don’t lose any progress.
Here’s a full list of every cheat code in Red Dead Redemption single player mode. Any cheats marked with “automatically unlocked” should already be in your cheats list and do not require you to enter a phrase:
